Catalog Full Description

Students will learn basic anatomy and physiology of all human systems and use anatomical and medical terminology. Students will gain knowledge and skills to provide basic emergency care for acutely ill patients during transport to a healthcare facility including assessing and maintaining respirations, airway, and artificial ventilation. Students will learn to identify the causes, signs, symptoms, and treatment for shock, respiratory failure, and respiratory or cardiac arrest. The needs of special populations will be addressed. Students learn the role of a basic EMT, the EMS system, medical/legal issues, and ethical considerations.

(64 hours of lab, open lab, lab assignments, and clinical)

Notes

The National Emergency Medical Services Education Standards curriculum is used in this program. Successful completion of the program allows the graduate to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians EMT certification examination and apply for Georgia licensure as an EMT.
