BSMATH - Bachelor of Science with a Major in Mathematics

Mathematics will prepare students to successfully pursue occupations in various industry and government positions requiring bachelor-level proficiency in the mathematical sciences, or graduate education in the mathematical sciences and engineering. Career opportunities include: Environmental Scientist, Cryptologist (NSA, Department of Defense), Actuarial Scientist (Insurance companies), Operation Research Analyst, Economist, Cost Estimator, Biostatistician, Hydrologist, and Epidemiologist, to name a few. A degree in Mathematics will prepare the students for a variety of careers by developing analytical and critical thinking skills which are highly desirable in the job market.

The General Mathematics concentration is designed to expose students to the fundamental theories and structures that underlie mathematics. This concentration will prepare students for advanced study in the field, but will also provide a strong foundation in highly valued and transferable workforce skills including oral and written communication, problem-solving, and programming.   

The concentration in Environmental Modeling trains students with the necessary environmental and Earth science background to understand the application and communication of mathematical modeling techniques in the geosciences. This concentration prepares students for careers using mathematical models for quantitatively understanding environmental systems in order to address topics such as climate change, ocean circulation, tectonic movement, and coupled socio-environmental systems.

In addition to the above program of study, students must earn a minimum 2.5 GPA in Field of Study/Prerequisites courses and also complete all collegewide Graduation Requirements.
