The College of Coastal Georgia BS with a major in Accounting will prepare students for employment as professional accountants or other business careers. This major will also serve as a foundation toward preparation for the Certified Public Accountant {CPA) examination and for graduate studies in business or law.
The BS in Accounting will be a challenging program of study intended to prepare students to become experts in the fields of accounting or business and is useful for a variety of student objectives. The value contributed by individuals educated in these fields focuses on their ability to participate in the analysis and decision-making process.
Career fields that rely on an accounting and business educational foundation include banking and insurance in the finance industries, purchasing, planning and estimating in manufacturing and service organizations, and traditional accounting and finance positions for organizations in the private, public, or non-profit sectors of the economy. The following is a partial list of positions accounting graduates may find available to them in the job market:
Staff accountants in private business, non-profit organizations, or government agencies,
Manager and director level positions such as Controllers, Director of Accounting, etc...,Auditors in private, government, and non-profit sectors,
Budget or financial analysts,
Cost estimators,
Treasury and investment managers,
Personal financial advisors,
IRS agents and examiners,
Management analyst (i.e., consultants),
Top senior level executives such as the Chief Financial Officer {CFO) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
There are several professional certifications or licenses available to college graduates with strong accounting backgrounds. They include the following:
Certified Public Accountant (CPA),
Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA),
Certified Management Accountant (CMA),
Certified Internal Auditor (CIA),
Certified Government Finance Manager (CGFM),
Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA),
Certified Financial Planner designation (CFP).
This list is not exhaustive as there are many other more specialized designations depending on a student's career goals and objectives. Students beginning this concentration are encouraged to give thought to their career goals in anticipation of both their course selection and the identification of an internship.

DECK 1000 courses are available to students who are currently in their first year at Coastal Georgia and should be completed during one of the student's first two terms of enrollment.
Transfer students who have not yet fulfilled this requirement may also register for a DECK 1000 course and should do so at their earliest possible opportunity.

Students should complete 9 credits from this list, and may also enroll in any Special Topics or Independent Study offered by the College of Business and Public Management to meet this requirement with permission of their advisor and instructor.
Notes
During the Freshman and Sophomore years, students pursuing the BS in Accounting will be required to take 60 total credit hours in the core curriculum. In the junior and senior years students generally are required to complete a 30 hour common core, 21 hour in the major, and 9 hours of directed electives. Upon completion of all degree requirements students are awarded a BS in accounting. 30 Credits of upper level courses must be completed at CCGA.
Students are strongly advised to regularly see their accounting advisor.
Students may enroll in the BS in accounting program at any time. Prior to enrolling in junior and senior level courses students generally have:
Complete the Core IMPACTS general education courses and Field of Study/Prerequisites.
A grade of C or better in all Field of Study/Prerequisites, MATH 1111 and MATH 1401/1401H.
An institutional GPA of 2.0 or better.
Met all prerequisites for the courses in which they plan to enroll.
In addition to the above, students must earn complete all collegewide Graduation Requirements.
