Catalog Full Description
Students will learn the anatomy and physiology of the airway, respiratory, and circulatory systems and apply respiratory and perfusion concepts to practice. Students will learn skills to perform cardiac and respiratory assessments and the skills needed to manage a patent airway, mechanical ventilation, and respiration. Students will learn to administer AEMT medications during emergencies. Students will apply knowledge to provide basic and advanced emergency care including resuscitation, during transport to a healthcare facility. Students will understand and apply appropriate care based on the growth and development of their patient population. Students will apply knowledge about the EMS system, safety, legal, and ethical to clinical practice.
(150 hours of lab, open lab, lab assignments, and clinical)
Pre-requisite: Basic EMT certification/license
Notes
The National Emergency Medical Services Education Standards curriculum is used in this program. Successful completion of the program allows the graduate to take the Advanced Emergency Medical National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians EMT certification examination and apply for Georgia licensure as an AEMT.
